Automated Medication Dispenser™

The current prescription filling process has several redundant steps, is vulnerable to many potential errors, and is inefficient. The AMD system makes the process easier and faster by using a single automated pharmacy system to take the prescription from the doctor or pharmacist and put the medication in the hands of the patient.
The Automated Medication Dispenser™ (AMD) is a stand-alone robotic vault, the size of a vending machine, which dispenses prescription medications to consumers in a variety of settings. The AMD system is a robust design with the following features:
- Registration Integration - The AMD system is designed to integrate with existing Electronic Medical Record systems to receive patient information at time of patient registration.
- Electronic Prescriptions - The AMD unit receives prescriptions electronically, either through a prescription writer from a doctor or through manual entry by a pharmacist.
- Touch Screen Interaction - The AMD system interacts directly with patients using a kiosk touch screen and card reader to identify the patient, select pending prescriptions, and complete payment.
- Automated Delivery - The AMD robot identifies selected medications by barcode, applies a patient specific label, collects payment, and dispenses the medication along with detailed written instructions, drug information and warnings, and a receipt.
- Inventory Management - The AMD is the first random access vending machine on the market. Most competitive solutions are built on the first-in first-out system with a limited variety of products.
- The capacity of the AMD can be up to several thousand prescriptions, depending on the size of prescription containers.
- With a random access system, one can access any single item independent of all other items.
- This allows the stocking of a large number of fast moving items and a small number of slow moving items.
- The AMD also has the capability to remove items from inventory prior to expiration.
- The AMD system can take advantage of the new Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system for medications identification and tracking.
- Multiple Safety Checks - The multi-step safety process within the AMD system will reduce the risk of errors in the fulfillment process.
